Lionel Andres Messi was born in Rosario, Argentina on June 24th, 1987.
He is one of four children.
Ever since he was a young boy, Lionel showed a keen interest in soccer.
Aged just 6 years of age, he joined Newell’s Old Boys football club.
He played for them for six years and scored over 500 goals.
It was clear that he was head and shoulders above the opposition in terms of footballing ability.

Aged 10, he was diagnosed with a growth hormone deficiency which threatened his career.
His club offered to pay for his healthcare but later changed their minds.
Messi’s family had relatives living in Catalonia, and so in 2000, they were able to arrange a trial with Barcelona.
Messi was signed to Barca, but for four years he was unable to make the first-team squad.
As he progressed through the ranks, however, he began turning more and more heads and aged just 16, he made his debut against Porto, who at the time was managed by the ‘special one’ Jose Mourinho.
He set up two goals and the third shot on goal, and subsequently he impressed the right people.
From that point onwards he began training with the first team.
On his 18th birthday, he signed his very first contract for the Barcelona first team.
He went from strength to strength, scored hundreds of goals, was voted player of the year multiple times, and he has so far won 10 La Liga titles with Barcelona, as well 4 Champions League titles.
He has scored over 600 goals for Barcelona, out of less than 700 appearances.
If you want to spark fierce debate, simply ask keen soccer fans whether they believe Messi or Ronaldo is better.
Their accomplishments virtually mimic one another.
They’ve both won the Balloons d’Or five times.
Messi has won the Golden Boot six times, compared to Ronaldo’s four.
Both players became all-time leading goal scorers whilst in La-Liga, and they are the two most marketable footballers in the world.
